PORTABLE VAPORIZER BEST COMPACT

STORZ & BICKEL CRAFTY+ REVIEW

★★★★½ 4.4 / 5.0 · REVIEWED 2026
Storz and Bickel Crafty Plus portable dry herb vaporizer
THE VERDICT
The Crafty+ is the most underrated vaporizer in the Storz & Bickel lineup. Smaller and cheaper than the Mighty+ and Venty, but uses the same German-engineered dual heating system that makes S&B vapor quality what it is. If you want real S&B vapor quality without spending $350+, this is your move.

WHO IS THIS FOR

The Crafty+ is built for the person who wants legitimate Storz & Bickel vapor quality but either doesn't have $350+ to spend or actively doesn't want to carry something as large as the Mighty+. If you've been using mid-range portables and the vapor always feels thin or harsh, the Crafty+ is the jump that actually solves the problem — without the Venty or Mighty+ price tag attached.

It's also the right move for people who found the Mighty+ just too bulky. The Crafty+ is noticeably more compact and roughly 60 grams lighter. That size difference matters when you're reaching into a jacket pocket or packing for a trip. You're not giving up vapor quality to get there — you're giving up battery life and session count, which for plenty of users is a perfectly acceptable trade.

If you're completely new to dry herb vaping, the Crafty+ might still be slightly overkill in the "what do I start with" conversation. But if you already know what you're doing and you want to step into genuine German engineering without paying flagship prices, this is where you land.

VAPOR QUALITY

The Crafty+ uses the same core dual heating system as the Mighty+ — a combination of convection and conduction that Storz & Bickel has refined over years of making both medical and consumer vaporizers. The result is vapor that is genuinely thick, flavorful, and consistent in a way that most portables in the $300-and-under range can't match. The smaller body does not compromise the output.

At lower temperatures — around 170–180°C (338–356°F) — the flavor clarity is excellent. You get full terpene expression before anything degrades, which is where good herb really shows what it is. Pushing to 195–200°C produces dense, heavier vapor for users who want more medicinal effect from their sessions. The vapor holds its quality through the bowl without the sharp taste dropoff you get from lower-end conduction-only units.

Where the Crafty+ punches above its size is specifically in this: the vapor quality is essentially identical to the Mighty+. Storz & Bickel has confirmed the heating systems are the same architecture. You are not paying less and getting a watered-down experience. You're getting the same output in a smaller package with different battery economics.

HEAT-UP TIME

The Crafty+ advertises around 60 seconds to heat-up, and in real-world use, that's roughly accurate from a warm device. From completely cold — say, first session of the morning or after the unit has been sitting unused — expect closer to 70–75 seconds before the vapor is where you want it. That's not a complaint, just calibrate your expectations accordingly.

Compared to the Venty's 20-second heat-up, the Crafty+ feels slow. That's the honest comparison. But the Venty costs $170 more, so if you're deciding between these two specifically on heat-up speed, you're not doing the math right. The 60-second wait is entirely reasonable for what the Crafty+ costs and what it delivers.

The heat-up is consistent session to session, which matters more than raw speed. You develop a rhythm — grind, load, set temperature, wait the minute, then you're in a session with excellent vapor. It doesn't fluctuate wildly or require the kind of patience a budget portable demands.

BATTERY LIFE

This is the main thing to understand before buying a Crafty+ over a Mighty+. The Crafty+ has a built-in, non-removable battery that delivers approximately four sessions per charge. Four. If you're a light-to-moderate user doing two or three sessions a day, that's fine — charge it every night and you're good. If you're running five or six sessions daily, you'll be mid-day charging regularly.

USB-C charging is a legitimate win here — the unit goes from dead to full in about 90 minutes, and because it's USB-C you can top it off from any modern charger, power bank, or laptop. The charging speed is meaningfully better than older Storz & Bickel devices that used proprietary connectors. Still, four sessions per charge is the hard ceiling on how long you can go without thinking about power.

The Mighty+ gets closer to 8–10 sessions per charge and has the option of replaceable batteries for truly unlimited runtime. If battery life is your number-one concern in a portable, the Mighty+ is the answer. If you can live with four sessions and want the savings and compactness, the Crafty+ is perfectly workable.

BUILD QUALITY

This is Storz & Bickel. The Crafty+ is built with the same material standards as everything else in the S&B lineup — full glass and stainless steel airpath, zero plastics touching your vapor. The cooling unit that forms the mouthpiece is the same modular, dishwasher-safe design that S&B has used across their portable lineup for years. It clicks in and out in seconds and stays clean easily.

The outer housing is the same durable polymer as the Mighty+, engineered to handle drops and daily carry abuse. The unit runs warm during extended sessions — that's characteristic of conduction-assist heating and something Storz & Bickel has acknowledged — but it doesn't get uncomfortably hot in normal use. Extended sessions back-to-back are where you'll notice the heat building in the body.

The 2-year warranty backs the build quality with something real. S&B's warranty service is well-regarded in the community. For a $279 device, knowing the company stands behind it for two years matters.

CRAFTY+ VS MIGHTY+

The Mighty+ costs around $349 — about $70 more than the Crafty+. For that premium you get a replaceable battery, more sessions per charge (8–10 vs 4), and a slightly larger oven. The vapor quality is identical between the two. That's the honest comparison: same vapor output, different battery story, different form factor.

The Crafty+ wins on portability and price. At roughly 135 grams versus the Mighty+'s 230+ grams, the size difference is immediately noticeable in a jacket pocket. If you're going somewhere where you want something that doesn't feel like you're carrying a small walkie-talkie, the Crafty+ is the answer. If you're a heavy daily user who needs to run all day without thinking about charging, the Mighty+ is the answer.

There's no wrong choice between them — it's genuinely a question of what your use pattern looks like. People who charge their device nightly and don't run more than three or four sessions a day will be completely satisfied with the Crafty+. People who vape heavily throughout the day need the Mighty+.

FINAL CALL

The Crafty+ delivers something genuinely difficult to find at $279: real Storz & Bickel vapor quality in a compact, pocketable form. It's not the best S&B device — the Venty has that — and it's not the most practical for heavy daily users. But as the entry point into genuine S&B quality without paying flagship prices, it earns its place in the lineup. If compactness matters to you and you can work with four sessions per charge, get the Crafty+.
