American herbalist Eagle Bill Amato brought a modified heat-gun device called the "Shake & Vape" to the Cannabis Cup in Amsterdam. Roger Volodarsky founded Puffco in LA to build concentrates hardware that didn't look like drug paraphernalia. The Peak Pro (2020) became the gold standard of electronic dab rigs — real-time temperature control, Bluetooth app, glass water attachment. Puffco built a culture brand as much as a hardware brand. Their drops sell out in hours.

Ontario-based Arizer built a reputation for simple, durable, glass-on-glass vapor paths. The Arizer Solo (2011) was the first portable many serious enthusiasts owned. The Extreme Q desktop unit remains one of the most-recommended budget desktops a decade after launch. No gimmicks — just reliable vapor from glass stems.

George Breiwa built something the market didn't know it needed — a butane-heated stainless steel and titanium vaporizer with a bimetallic click mechanism. No batteries, no electronics. Heat the cap, listen for the click, inhale. The VapCap M ($75) consistently outranks vaporizers costing 10× more in community taste tests. A cult object.

Founded by Mark Williams and Jon Goldman in San Francisco, Firefly pioneered on-demand convection in a portable form factor. The Firefly 2+ heats only when you draw — no pre-heating oven baking your material between hits. It showed the industry that fast convection was achievable in a pocket device, influencing nearly every premium portable that followed.
